Today I will bring you – How to Power your Google Ranking Drastically with Excellent SEO Practices.
Top Google rankings indicate online business success.
According to Backlinko, the first Google result gets 31.7% of clicks, while the second-page gets.78%.
People I know who run businesses struggle to improve their Google rankings without getting penalized.
As if there’s a magic button that consistently ranks your site #1.
Resourcefulness, dedication, persistence, and creativity are required.
This is because Google’s algorithm is constantly changing.
I’m going back to the basics for on-page SEO to help you master the new regulations.
You don’t have to learn from my mistakes.

According to Google execs Gary Illyes and John Mueller, Google’s algorithm continually evolves.
John Mu tweets daily Google ranking updates.
Google’s algorithm is said to change 500-600 times per year!
Google used to announce significant updates, but the algorithm’s inner workings are unknown.
Industry professionals largely speculate.

Black hat SEO…
If everyone knew how to rank without shortcuts or black hat SEO, Google couldn’t rank only the top results.
Without effort, anyone can get ahead.
This would make it hard for honest people like you and me to succeed and undermine Google’s mission.
Google’s mission is to organize and make information universally applicable.
We know the most about Google’s algorithm from major algorithm updates like:
In June 2021, Core Web Vitals, organic search results, and News Alerts were upgraded.
This update emphasized content quality and relevance.
Googlebot now views all websites as smartphones, prioritizing mobile-friendly sites.
Mobile-friendly update (April 2015):
Favoring mobile-friendly websites and setting up future penalties for noncompliance.
Pigeon (July 2014):
Integrated Google Maps local search results.
Hummingbird (August 2013):
Aims to understand a user’s context and intent rather than literal words.
It penalized spammers and sites that buy unnatural links to improve their rankings.
Panda, Google EMDs, and PBN deindexing updates.
Google has never verified that Phantom has been updated four times since May 2013.
How do you track Google updates?
Significant resources are available. Moz’s Google Algorithm Change History is a chronological database.
Also, see Google Webmaster Central.
Watch the video to understand the strategies of Google link building, on-page SEO, and user analytics.
Let’s get to those actionable algorithm strategies I mentioned earlier.
Assess your Google ranking
Know your Google rank to improve it.
- Even new sites are affected.
- Many tools can help.
Ubersuggest Keyword Rank Check
Use my tool Ubersuggest to check your rank for specific keywords in your page content.
Use “Traffic Overview” under the competitor report after logging in.
Type in your domain to see your SEO keywords, top pages, and overall ranking.

Scroll down to see your “SEO Keywords” ranking.
Speed Up Your Site
Site speed is another critical Google ranking factor.
Slow sites don’t rank well.
It will also impact your ability to acquire new customers.
Walmart’s conversions dropped when page loads took four seconds.
Your on-page SEO, meta description, and title tags are useless if this happens.
Even Walmart gets penalized by the search algorithm.
Site speed improves Google rankings.
That’s why conducting your site speed test to improve Google rankings is critical.
Several tools can help
- PageSpeed Insights
- Extension YSlow (for Yahoo)
- Pingdom Web Test
- Pingdom lets you test page speed.
Enter your URL at tools.pingdom.com.
Choose a location and click “Start Test.”
Pingdom test improves Google ranking.
Quick Sprout scores 81. Over 50 is a good start.
Your page content is slow if it scores less than 50.
Quick Sprout improves Google rankings.
Check page load speed
Quick sprout takes 1.89 seconds.
Aim for a site load time of 2 seconds or less on mobile.
Remember that a long load time can cost you a lot of site traffic.
Site health check
Before optimizing, assess your site’s health by looking at keyword rank and site speed.
Have you suddenly lost organic traffic after months or years of steady growth?
Wondering if Google deindexed (or banned) your site?
There are many great tools to help solve this puzzle.
MxToolBox Domain Health Report checks for site problems, blacklist, mail server, web server, and DNS.

Check F.E. International’s Website Penalty Indicator to see if you’ve been penalized by an algorithm update.
Improve ranks with Google penalty indication
During big update rollouts, you’ll observe a traffic graph.
This comparison shows if an update affected your site.

Check Google Search Console’s “Security & Manual Actions” report for penalties.
This shows if Google manually penalized your site.
Manually improve Google rankings
Human reviewers don’t know if an algorithm upgrade penalized your site.
Fix a manual penalty (this guide can assist) and ask Google to reconsider.
Know how Google users find your site.
Organic search dominates non-organic channels like paid search and social media.f
Social media, email, and paid ads often drive organic traffic, but this varies by business.
View the acquisition channels report in Google Analytics.
Helpful Google Analytics guide
In addition to search traffic, pay attention to your site’s keywords.
This is harder now but still possible.
Google Search Console helps (formerly Google Webmaster Tools).
It shows how many organic clicks you get for specific keywords.
Transactional Keyword Ranking
Not focusing on transactional keywords is the most significant keyword research mistake.
Commercial keywords drive sales.
You must understand commercial vs. informational keywords to improve Google rankings and make money.
It’s challenging to turn visitors into purchasers or social media sharers using informational keywords.
Visitors searching for keywords like:
- How to get rid of acne at home
- Installing WordPress
- Free online moneymaking
- Downloadable eBook
- Free article spinners
If they’re not buying, speak search engine-free language.
These terms can drive traffic; a good sales funnel will convert some but not many.
Conversely, some use transactional keywords that convey user intent, such as:
- Acne treatments
- Top 10 web hosts
- N.Y. designers
These people want a buyable solution
Transactional keywords tend to convert well in e-commerce.
Keywords with the following prefixes or suffixes perform well:
Earlier, I mentioned your organic keywords.
Use them in the meta description and on-page SEO (later on).
Informational vs. transactional keywords?
Track These Metrics with A SEO Dashboard
Set up an SEO dashboard to track all important metrics at any time.
Google Analytics: How to set one up.
Invest in SEO tools if you can.
Google Analytics should work on a small budget.
You can get richer keyword data by connecting Google Search Console to Google Analytics.
Mobile-friendly site (and Ready for a Mobile-First Google)
Over half of the website traffic is mobile.
Your site must be mobile-friendly to rank well.
Some algorithm changes are unclear, but Google’s mobile strategy is clear.
Google Webmaster Blog, January 10, 2017:
Pages with difficult-to-access content may rank lower in mobile search results starting today.
In 2020, Google switched to “mobile-first indexing,” which views websites as mobile devices.
Unnavigable sites will hurt your ranking.
Thankfully, your position is clear.
You can use Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test to see if your site is mobile-friendly.
Enter your URL and click “TEST.”

The results include a “yes or no” answer and a list of page loading issues.
This way, you can fix and optimize your mobile site.
Mobile-friendly test to boost Google rankings.
You can view page loading issues like redirection errors and robots.
It also has a Mobile Usability Report that lists your site’s mobile usability issues.
If your site isn’t mobile-friendly, fix it.
- Mobify and Duda Mobile can help.
- Most WordPress and Wix themes are mobile-friendly. These features may require a site update.
- Make CTAs and form fields tap-friendly.
- Use pop-ups that can be closed. Pop-ups increase conversions but annoy users.
- Be mobile-friendly to improve Google rankings
- Google’s mobile SEO tips offer more SEO advice.
- Mobile and local SEO are pals.
Mobile and local searches are linked.
Google is a hyper-local search engine that connects consumers and brands.
You should update and complete your Google My Business profile.
Claim and update your business listing as soon as possible if you haven’t already.
This applies to Yelp, Facebook, BBB, and others.
HubSpot lists local business listings and directories.
Fix Google penalties
After knowing your search ranking and setting up key indication tracking, check your site for penalties.
It’s not worth promoting or linking to a bad site.
Before we start, I’ll mention Google penalties.
Link Building is Different Now.
BAD LINKS HURT, AND Google will penalize you if you use them.
It’s crucial to generate links to your site.
avoid Google penalties quote, Matt Cutts
How? Remove unhealthy links.
First, examine your site’s links.
You can use several links analyses tools to do this:
SEOprofiler link analysis:
Register at Link Profiler Backlinks.
Backlink example to avoid Google penalties
The results show the essential backlink elements:
Backlinks that directly or indirectly affect your Google ranking.
Unique links have different I.P. addresses.
So, you can spot a natural connection.
Google has indexed these links in the last 90 days.
Problogger has 1,522 nofollow backlinks out of 14,922 total.
Google introduced rel= “nofollow” in 2005 to prevent spammy blog comments from manipulating rankings.
Google Penguin update
After the 2013 Google Penguin update, link diversification became crucial.
Matt Cutts claimed dofollow and nofollow links are needed (links that pass ranking value).
This research demonstrates Problogger’s industry is “media,” not “blogging” or “internet marketing.”
Knowing your sector might help you find relevant backlinks to increase your SEO.
Link Influence Score shows how website links affect search engine rankings.
The better the score
Problogger, a popular and influential site, scored 99%. See your site’s score.
Click the link in the left menu to access data for anchor text linking to your site.
Google made it harder to manipulate search results with exact match anchor text with the Penguin update.
Diversify your anchor text to avoid search penalties.
Anchor text for SEO
You should also remove harmful links from your site
- PR-n/or PR0
- Links sitewide
- From low-traffic domains
- From the same I.P. class address
- From sites with many external links
- Free tools can identify unhealthy links. I used Monitor Backlinks and Linkquidator.
Moz has a detailed tutorial on what links can harm your site.
Once you find bad links, export them. You can then reference them.
Avoid a Google penalty by cleaning up your link profile.
Your link profile can be cleaned up in one of two different methods.
1. Visit the website with unhealthy/unnatural links and contact the owner.
If possible, ask the site owner to remove your link.
If you outsourced link building, you could request that the links be removed.
An example from Search Engine World shows how this works:
Manual link removal improves google rankings.
Site owners may suspect spam if you seek link removal. Instead, use SEJ’s lecture.
If unhealthy links aren’t removed, use Google’s disavow links tool.
This is an excellent alternative to manually removing links.
Google Search Console’s disavow tool.
All your sites will be listed once Search Console is opened.
Visit the site to disavow links.
Disavow link tool improves Google Rankings and prevents penalties.
Unnatural links can be exported when checked.
When you’re done, click “Done.”
Google can’t remove the links because it can’t access the referring sites.
This allows Google to stop passing link juice to your page content.
Anchor text can improve or destroy your search ranking, so diversify it.
As previously stated, a natural link profile requires anchor text diversification.
Does the anchor text exactly match your keyword?
Does a keyword phrase appear in anchor text? e.g., wireless headsets
Link building with your full URL, e.g., http://crazyegg.com
Apple AirPods is an example of natural brand-name anchor text.
Anchor text branded with site keywords, e.g., getting started with content marketing.
Assume your page sells blue jeans.
How do you distribute anchor text for bluedenimjeans.com?
This link profile is ideal if you want to link three times from one site.
denim jeans review online – target page: a review page
Target page: www.bluedenimjeans.com reviews
Over-optimization can be penalized if you overuse anchor texts.
Geoff Kenyon recommends these percentages:
Google ranking tip – anchor text
Follow these guidelines to avoid over-optimizing anchor text:
Don’t use the exact keyword term as anchor text for internal pages like “link-building tactics.”
Instead, use “link building” or a generic plus keyword. It’s all about balance.
What’s linking to your dog training site with the “best golf trainer”?
Improving Google rankings is pointless and could lead to a penalty.

More title tag tips:
- Use pipes and dashes to save space.
- Avoid all-caps titles. It’s annoying.
- Never use default title tags like “Product Page” or “Home.” They make Google think you have duplicate content and aren’t very convincing to users.
- Put unique keywords first.
- Avoid keyword stuffing. Google favors natural, contextual strings over forced keyword phrases.
- Title tags can make-or-break traffic and conversions.
Google shows 60 characters on a SERP, but don’t cut off if a more extended title fits.
